About this experience

Class: Drawing and Printmaking Inspired by Hidden Canterbury Dates: 31st October. 12pm-4pm (4 hours including break) Level: Age 13+ This one-day workshop will cover mark-making and drawing through the medium of monoprint, without the use of a press. We will help you find inspiration from iconic monuments or landmarks in Canterbury, developing your skills without the need for professional print equipment. WHAT IS INCLUDED? Through a series of drawing and print experiments we will introduce you to new ways of seeing. You will explore line, tone, shape, form and mark-making using pencil, charcoal and water based printmaking inks. The experience can then be applied to a range of specialist subjects that use drawing skills to support and explore creativity to develop your own personal style. OUR WORKSHOP WILL TEACH YOU: * Learning to look using secondary sources * Composition and tone * Light and shade * Gesture and mark-making * Health and safety guidelines YOU WILL: * Plan a composition * Create a series of monotype prints * Draw using tone/texture to establish structure * Draw using line and gesture * Start to develop a personal approach to mark making This is a course for beginners and no prior experience is necessary. * All materials are provided. * Space is limited to 10 attendees * Refreshments are included

Sarah has been teaching art in schools and colleges in Kent and London for over fifteen years after graduating from Goldsmiths College with a masters degree. She has exhibited her own work in the UK and in New York and is currently a lecturer in Art & Design at Canterbury School of Visual Arts.
