An Introduction to Silk Screen PrintingAbout this experience
4-Week Evening Course: From 14th November to December 5th. Held weekly on Tuesday evenings : 6pm-9pm Level: Age 16+ . This 4 week course will start with an induction to the main disciplines involved in screen printing , including the safe use and operation of the materials and equipment used in a studio. This course is suitable for beginners and also for people with basic knowledge of printmaking, who would like to develop their skills in a friendly and relaxed setting in the city centre. WHAT'S INCLUDED? We will help you learn a range of screen printing techniques through practical experience and experimentation in our studio. You will be able to develop your images from personal sources and projects and discover how screen printing can have a transformative effect on your initial designs or ideas. We will cover techniques such as hand cut stencils, building up layers through overprinting colours and texture through pre exposed screens prior to the course .
This introduction to silk screen printmaking for beginners provides a strong foundation in the medium and encourages creative exploration. Students can leave the course with a better understanding of the process and the confidence to continue their silk screen printing journey independently.

Lucy is a Canterbury based printmaker who teaches at Canterbury School of Visual Arts and Brit Kids which is part of The Brit school in London. She has exhibited across the UK in her professional practice and she draws inspiration from the Kent coast and social narratives.
